As the weather changes, we have to think more about what we are wearing while exercising. Not only on the bike but running as well. Remember that it’s always easer to take it off than to want it. Below are some simple ways to make your sessions valuable and tolerable.
Fall – In the AM, it’s bitter cold only to turn out to be a nice day. For these times removable layers are key. Start out with gloves, arm warmers and maybe even leg warmers. As it gets warmer you can remove the layers and continue your session.
Winter – Layers is key when it’s cold out. A tight wicking base layer will make you more comfortable than a huge jacket. Pay close attention to your fingers and toes. Wind proof is the key word here. Gloves don’t have to be bulky to be windproof. A good set of booties will be the difference between feeling your feet 2 hrs after a ride or when you get off the bike.
Trainer – With the dark and colder weather, embrace the trainer. It allows you to gt in a focused workout with little to no coasting. But don’t sacrifce the road when you can dress for the outside. Use the trainer as a tool in your arsenal, not a replacement.
With a couple of layers and proper timing of your rides and runs, you can continue to train outside. Don’t forget that with the colder weather, a good warm up is more vital than ever.
